About SAT II (Subject Test)
Some colleges require the applicants to take SATII subject tests in addition to SATI. These tests gauge students' knowledge of subjects that are necessary for success in the programs they are applying. Subject tests are an important resource for colleges. They are also one of the best predictors of how well students will do in college. The subject tests usually cover the high school syllabi.
Some colleges also use Subject Tests to place students into the appropriate courses. Based on your performance on the test(s), you could potentially fulfill basic requirements or receive credit for introductory-level courses.
Each subject test is scored on a scale of 200-800. With the exception of a few subject tests, they are usually administered seven times a year in the U.S. and U.S. territories, including Puerto Rico, and six times a year overseas. In Pakistan, subject tests are conducted in Karachi, Lahore & Islamabad.
Who takes the test
SATII is typically taken by high school juniors and seniors or AS/1st Year and A2/2nd Year students. SATII scores are used by admission panels to supplement your SATI scores, school/college academic records, recommendation letters, essays and other qualifications for undergraduate-level study.
How many subject tests per day
1. You may take up to three SAT Subject Tests on a single test date.
2. The Language with Listening tests are always given in the first hour of testing. Only one listening test can be taken per test date.
3. Calculators may be used only on the Mathematics Level 1 and Level 2 Subject Tests.
4. You cannot take the SAT Subject Tests and the SAT on the same test date.
5. You must indicate which SAT Subject Tests you plan to take when you register.
6. However, you may change which test(s) you actually take on test day — except for Language with Listening tests.
Which programs require SAT
SAT II Subject tests are usually required by the student applying for engineering sciences. In SAT II mostly Math Level 1, Math Level 2, Biology/EM, Chemistry, Physics & Literature are required. Some colleges specify the tests to be taken, others leave it to the applicants' choice. If a college does not require the applicants to take subject tests, an applicant can still take the subject tests relevant to his opted program. Such applicant will have an edge over other contestants as he would be able to tell the admission panel how he could be expected to perform in the program he had opted.
