Eligibility for LUMS




For Under Graduate Program


LUMS desires to attract students who are academically well prepared and have the potential to enrich and contribute to the learning environment at the university. All admission decisions are strictly based on academic merit which is determined primarily by the type of courses taken previously, course grades and admission test scores. Some students may be called for an interview by the Admissions Committee.


Selection Criteria:


Students are selected for admission to LUMS based on the following factors:


  1. 1. Academic Background
  2. 2. Performance in the Admission Test(s)
  3. 3. Submission of a completed application form (and all required supporting documents)
  4. 4. Interview (if called)


All admission decisions are taken by the Undergraduate Admissions Committee and are final.


Academic Background


1. Applicants who have successfully completed FA/ICS/ICOM/FSc/A Levels/High School Diploma or International Baccalaureate (IB) are eligible to apply for admission if they fulfill one of the following academic qualifications:


      • -  Successful completion of Matric (70% marks or above) and FA (65% marks or above)/FSc/ ICS/ICOM (70% marks or above)
  • -  O Levels results (in at least 6 subjects) with a average grade of at least  'B' and A Levels in at least 3 principal subjects (with at least 2 Bs and 1 C grade such that there should be no more than 1 C grade and no grade less than a C across three principal subjects in the A' Level examination. No credit will be given for General Paper.
  • -  American High School Diploma (HSD) (70% or above or Grade point average of B or above)
  • -  International Baccalaureate (IB) (at least 28 out of 45 points)
  • -  Combinations of the above

- Any other equivalent qualification (minimum acceptable scores will be determined by the Admissions Committee)



2. Applicants who have not taken the final exams of their FA/ICS/ICOM/FSc/A Levels (in three principal subjects)/High School Diploma or International Baccalaureate (IB) as yet and are expecting their final results by August 2016 are eligible to apply for admission if they fulfill one of the following academic qualifications:


-  Successful completion of Matric (with at least 70% marks) and FA 1st year (65% marks or above) /FSc/ ICS/ ICOM 1st year (70% marks or above)

-  O Levels results (in at least six subjects) with an average grade of  at least 'B'

-  American High School Diploma (9th, 10th, 11th & 12th year's first semester) results with 70% marks or above or Grade point average of B or above

-  International Baccalaureate (first year) results (at least 28 out of 45 points)


To Join Lums in Fall, applicants who are made a conditional offer must subsquently meet the conditions stipulated by the Admissions Committee.




-  Candidates who have either completed or are in the last year of completion of 12 years of education which does not lead to FA/ICS/ICOM/FSc/A' levels or International Baccalaureate Certification will be required to get an equivalence certificate from the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC), Islamabad, Pakistan. Applicants who have applied for equivalence certificate from Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC), Islmabad, Pakistan and have not received the certificate before the application submission deadline should be submit it as soon as the receive it.


-  Candidates who have already completed their A' Levels (have taken the exam of minimum three A' level principal subjects and do not meet the minimum grades requirement (specified in subsection I-1) must improve their grades in order to be eligible for admission. A' Levels Exams are held in November 2015. Applicants planning to improve their grades by taking June 2016 exams are not eligible for Fall 2016 Session.

 -  In addition to the condition(s) stipulated by the LUMS, all admitted students MUST meet the prescribed conditions (as stated at HEC's website) in order to get their LUMS Undergraduate degree attested from the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan.

-  Foreign/Overseas Nationals coming from foreign institution MUST submit an Equivalence Certificate of O & A Levels/Intermediate Certificate awarded by the IBCC, Pakistan to meet the equivalence requirement set by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan.

  1. II. Performance in the Admission Test
  2.      The SAT Reasoning Test (SAT I) is mandatory for all applicants applying to the Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB)< Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School of Humanities & Social Sciences (MGSHSS), Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law (SAHSOL), SAT I Registration can be done online through the following linkL https://www.collegeboard.org.
  3. Important Note for all applicants:
      1. 1. SAT I taken more than two years before the admission deadline will not be considered valid.
      2. 2. SAT I taken after January 2017 will not be considered for fall 2017 session.
      3. 3. Each applicant should submit only one applicationfor fall 2017 session.
      4. 4. When registering for SAT I, use your name as it appears on your LUMS application and other academic credentials.   Using a different name may prevent your scores from matching the rest of your application in our database.
      5. 5. Applicants are required to report test scores of all attempts to the University by submitting a copy of score report(s). Best score of a single attempt will be considered for application evaluation.
      6. 6. In order for your application to be considered complete and for LUMS to make an admissions decision, have your official test scores submitted directly to LUMS by the testing agency (ETS) on your behalf. The college code for reporting SAT scores to LUMS is 0513.
      7. 7. Applicants are required to submit score(s) of the SAT Reasoning Test (SAT I) to the LUMS Admissions Office soon after the announcement of result. The copy of student report should also be sent along with all other supporting documents.



For Graduate Program



Minimum Eligibility Criteria for application submission

Applicants must meet the minimum eligibility criteria in order to be considered for admission to the Graduate Programme. Meeting this criteria does not guarantee admission to the Graduate program.


All applicants to LUMS, regardless of citizenship, are held to the same admissions standards, and evaluated on the same admissions criteria.

Admission to the Programme is based entirely on merit. The basic policy of the Admissions Committee of the Suleman Dawood School of Business is to select those men and women whose intellectual capacity, managerial potential and personal characteristics best qualify them to pursue careers in management.



Applicants will be assessed on the following criteria:



  • Minimum of sixteen years of education leading to a Masters or Bachelor's* degree from a university recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan.
  • Performance in the GMAT/GRE (no other admission test scores are valid)
  • Work experience (preferred but not compulsory)
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Interview performance


* Candidates holding only a bachelors degree of less than four years duration will be required to produce an equivalence certificate of completion of 16 years of education issued by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan.

Decisions on admission are made after careful evaluation of all applications. Evaluation for interview call is carried out based on a combination of factors such as academic track record, performance in GMAT/GRE, and work experience (if available).

The Admissions Office will review applications to ensure requirements are being met. Shortlisted candidates will be called in for an interview, after which the final decision will be taken.

Admission Test for MBA

Applicants are required to take Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE)  in order to be considered for admission. Only GMAT/GRE scores are valid and, hence, applicants with previous LMAT scores need to take the GMAT/GRE.


GMAT/GRE is offered as a computer adaptive test worldwide. Apart from official test scores that LUMS will require directly from Educational Testing Service (ETS), USA, and applicants must submit or mail a copy of the unofficial GMAT/GRE scores as soon as they take the test. The LUMS code for receiving GMAT/GRE scores from ETS is 0679. For further details on GMAT and GRE, please log on to www.mba.com  and www.ets.org respectively


  • GMAT/GRE taken more than five years before the admission deadline will not be considered valid.
  • If applicant has taken more than one test, the best score will be considered for application evaluation
  • Availability of GMAT/GRE score will be mandatory for submission of online admission application
  • Applicants who are admitted to, and join, the MBA programme will get a refund of one GMAT/GRE registration fee.

Interview Performance


A merit ranking for interview short listing is established on academic performance, work experience (if any) and GMAT/GRE scores of the candidates. Only short-listed candidates are called for interviews.





LUMS admission test is based on SAT and GMAT.
